Officer Elections Announced

September 4, 2009//Lincoln, Neb.//JoAnn M. Martin, president and chief executive officer – UNIFI Mutual Holding Company, announces the following officer elections, effective September 1.

Bruce Mieth, Ph.D., was elected senior vice president – group customer connections and operations. In this capacity, he will lead the design and rollout of group’s customer connection strategy and organization. He is responsible for Group Division’s customer operations and information technology.

Bruce joined Ameritas in January 2000 as assistant vice president of group business systems and integration. He was elected vice president – group planning and business systems in 2000, and most recently served as vice president – group information systems officer.

He earned his B.A. degree in computer science from Hastings College and his M.B.A. and Ph.D. in finance from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, with an emphasis in investments and asset pricing.

John Lucas was elected vice president, general counsel and assistant secretary for Union Central. In this capacity, John will manage Union Central’s legal department, support Union Central’s operations and initiatives and work to prevent and minimize exposure to legal liabilities.

John joined the company in February 1988 as assistant to the corporate secretary. He has held various positions, most recently as second vice president, associate general counsel and assistant secretary.

He is a graduate of Northern Kentucky University, Highland Heights, Ky., where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in political science. He earned his M.A. degree in history from Xavier University, Cincinnati, Ohio, and his juris doctorate from Chase Law School at Northern Kentucky University. John holds the FINRA Series 6 securities license. He serves as a featured speaker for the insurance section of the American Law Firms Association on in-house attorney matters.

April Rimpley, ACS, FLMI, was elected vice president – group customer connections and operations. In this role, she is responsible for integrating information technology and all claims touch points.

April started with Ameritas in 1998 as a group administration client service representative. She has served in numerous positions for the group division, most recently as second vice president - group customer relations. She has played an integral role in leading Group Division’s customer relations teams, finding innovative solutions to assist in decreasing unit costs and partnering with new blocks of business.

A graduate of Wayne State College, Wayne, Neb., April earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology, with a minor in business, and obtained her secondary education teaching certification in business and psychology. She earned her Master of Arts degree in management with an emphasis in leadership from Doane College. She is currently pursuing her LIMRA Leadership Institute Fellow (LLIF) designation and will participate in the Leadership Lincoln Fellows program in the fall of 2009.

April serves on the National Dental Electronic Data Interchange Council and is chair of its education committee. She also is a member of the Young Professionals Group’s education committee.

Tami Shaner, FLMI, was elected vice president and assistant controller - Ameritas Life, Acacia Life and Union Central Life. In her new role, she will be responsible for the coordination of the accounting department's model audit rule (MAR) compliance, in addition to GAAP and statutory financial reporting, excluding AFSB, AIC, Calvert and Summit, but including the consolidated UNIFI GAAP financial reporting.

She began working for Ameritas in January 1988 as an accountant - cost/group. Tami has served in numerous positions in the accounting department in the financial reporting unit, most recently as second vice president - financial reporting.

Tami graduated from the University of Nebraska - Lincoln with a Bachelor of Science degree, majoring in accounting.

Dan Shick was elected vice president and associate general counsel for Union Central. Dan provides legal services concerning the UNIFI companies’ intellectual property, computer and technology agreements, agent and agency contracts, real estate projects, bankruptcy issues and various transactions. He serves as the attorney liaison to the information technology department.

Since joining Union Central in May 1987, Dan has held various positions within the law department, most recently as second vice president and associate general counsel.

Dan earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Xavier, Cincinnati, Ohio, and his juris doctorate from the University of Cincinnati College of Law.

Steve Skelley, ACS, APA, was elected second vice president – retirement plans customer service for Union Central and Ameritas. In this role, Steve manages the new business, participant services and client services teams of UNIFI Companies Retirement Plans. He is responsible for the accuracy and timeliness of the processing and plan set-up and the communication between our organization and our clients (plan sponsors, participants and advisors).

Steve has nearly 20 years of experience in the retirement plan business. He joined Union Central in October 1997 as an administration specialist and was responsible for compliance testing and plan sponsor reporting for an assigned block of plans. He has managed a team of administrators and served as new business manager. During the last five years, Steve has managed various projects for the department.

A graduate of Indiana University, Steve earned his B.S. degree in finance. He holds the professional designations of ACS, APA (Accredited Pension Administrator through NIPA) and QKA (Qualified 401(k) through ASPPA).
